WSL, Azure, SQL Server - it's been impressive and a welcome change. If you want to migrate MySQL to SQL Server, then you’ve come to the right place.

While MySQL is an independent and open-source RDBMS supported by Oracle whereas MS SQL is a proprietary RDBMS of Microsoft. (And big Kudos to Microsoft for the big push on Linux support. MySQL and Microsoft SQL as we know, are the most commonly used Relational Database Management Systems (RDBMSs). (Actually, I suppose that goes for any open source project/application.) I would urge Microsoft to continue its excellent progress on cross-platform support and extend that to multiple architectures. Long story short: A major benefit to open-source DB alternatives is that you don't run into architectural challenges like this.

And I doubt Microsoft wants to release the source code for the client libraries? So, short of writing some kind of proxy in C#, it looks like I'm stuck. In my case, I'd like to connect to SQL Server from Python (on an ARM64 machine running Linux). The problem with saying that dotnet has a client (that runs on Linux/ARM) is that it presumes you're using a dotnet application. (Doesn't look like Azure offers those yet, but I'm guessing it's not far off.) And we've seen enough growth/demand that AWS now offers EC2 ARM instances.

ARM is probably the second most popular architecture overall (if you include Tablets/Mobile devices, it might even be first). I think what we're really talking about is an arm/arm64 binary build of the client tools for Linux. (so to say "it's not supported" isn't 100% accurate) There are currently arm64 builds of the client utilities for MacOS. The bigger issue is the client utilities (as noted previously the mssql-tools and especially the msodbcsql17 packages). I understand that SQL Server itself is not supported on ARM.
